Hello, my name’s Andrew, and this is Vivobarefoot Gobi, a recycled barefoot shoe you can buy for 25–50% off at revivo.com. Let’s check ‘em out!
ReVivo
Ever since I posted my original Primus Lite review one of my top comments has been that people want to try Vivobarefoot, but they’re on a tight budget.
So Vivo looked at the billions of shoes that end up in a landfill every year and made a second store at revivo.com where you can buy refurbished barefoot shoes at a lower price, and here’s how it works…
Grading
When a shoe gets returned, ReVivo grades the condition and discounts it 20% for Unworn, 25% for Excellent, 35% for Great, and 50% for Good.
The shoe is then deep steamed, sanitized, repaired, and listed at revivo.com with new laces, insoles, or anything else it might need.
Basically it’s like barefoot reincarnation with a 100% guarantee of good karma.
Features
Not that I mind, but I kind of expected my recycled Gobi’s to look a bit, well…recycled. However, ReVivo did a great job, and you’d never guess they weren’t brand new.
Upper
Because the Gobi’s have a wide, foot-shaped toebox with a flawless leather upper that’s thin enough to breathe and a removable insole for extra padding.
Sole/Tread
Underneath there’s an ultra flexible 4mm sole and a minimal tread for walking and standing on hard surfaces like pavement and concrete.
Also, being on version three, you can find the Gobi on vivobarefoot.com and revivo.com in lots of different colors, like brown, midnight, bracken, black, and honey.
Testing
While I was living outside NYC I bought a pair of Aldo boots, which looked rad, but they had such a stiff sole and narrow toebox that my feet were just killing me.
Casual
So when I went out to do some errands in the Gobi’s it was totally bizarre, because I had this residual mindset of “stylish = uncomfortable,” and yet…
…here were these barefoot shoes that felt felt so roomy and flexible that I could walk around on roads all day and forget I was even wearing them.
Work/Business
Also, where dress boots used to be the bane of my existence, the Gobi’s are classy enough to wear to a wedding or business meeting without scandalizing your friends and family (re: Vibram FiveFingers)…
…and they’ve also got the same 4mm sole as the Primus Lite’s, which are the barefoot shoes that cured me of plantar fasciitis when I was working eight hour shifts on concrete as a shoe salesman.
Conclusion
Overall the Vivobarefoot Gobi’s are a classic barefoot shoe for casual and businesswear that are made even better by the 25–50% discounts at revivo.com.
Pros/Cons
Because they’ve got a wide, foot-shaped toebox, a thin, ultra flexible sole, and a temperature regulating leather upper for all seasons.
However, the Gobi’s are might be too pointy for some, the molded upper can flop a bit, and you might have to swap out the laces if you need something more formal.
