Hello, my name’s Andrew, and these are The Original Foot Alignment Socks, the most gentle way to space toes and relieve pain.
Features
Like most people I grew up wearing pointy shoes and cleats that made my feet narrow and squashed my toes…
…and while switching to barefoot shoes in 2017 definitely helped, a lot of the toe spacing products like Correct Toes just looked too stiff and uncomfortable.
So I asked Happy Feet for a pair of their softer Foot Alignment Socks to try, and they’re kind of like a cozy pair of finger gloves for your feet!
Materials
Because the Alignment Socks are made from 90% cotton, which is stretchy enough for any foot type, and although the spacers are more squishy than rubber, they’re still firm enough to give you lots of toe splay.
Style
Although you’re not going to make any fashion statements wearing toe spacers, the Alignment Socks do come in a bunch of different colors, like Multi, Charcoal, Blue, Green, Grey, Purple, Pink, White, Red, and Navy….
…which you can get in small, medium, large, XL, and XXL.
Testing
Like barefoot shoes it’s best to work the Alignment Socks in gradually, so I started with the spacers out toward the tips of my toes and only wore them for about ten minutes the first day.
Lounging
After that I graduated to thirty minutes at dinner, an hour at the computer, two hours watching a movie, and then wearing them all night while I was sleeping.
For warm days the cotton material and open toes were great for breathability, but when it was colder the Alignment Socks fit fine in my barefoot KOW Slippers, or over top of some Injinji toe socks.
Walking
Also, while short trips to the fridge were ok, I wouldn’t recommend walking around in them, because the ridge underneath can put pressure on the pads of your feet.
In fact, I wouldn’t recommend wearing any brand of toe spacers while walking or running, because if your bones haven’t adjusted it could just make your foot pain even worse.
Results
Finally, it might take anywhere from a few months to a year to see significant changes in the shape of your feet.
However, the relief you get from putting your toes back into their natural position pays off immediately…
…and it almost of made me miss wearing pointy cushion shoes, because I could see how nice it would feel to slip on the Alignment Socks to spread out my feet after a long achy day of bunions, hammer toes, or plantar fasciitis.
Conclusion
Overall at $25 the Happy Feet Alignment Socks are a much more gentle introduction to toe spacers than harder plastic brands.
Pros/Cons
Because the cotton fabric is super cozy and breathable, the spacers are a good balance of soft yet supportive, and in general the socks are really easy to adjust.
However, they do look a bit silly, they’re not ideal for walking, and you might need slippers or toe socks to stay warm on colder days.
Alternatives
In terms of other toe spacers…
